A Still, Quiet Soul

“I have stilled and quieted my soul; like a weaned child with its mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me.” Psalm 131:2

Scripture Focus: Psalm 131

We live in a frantic, demanding world. Our souls are continually stirred up with desire, ambition, and needs- some real, some false, some good, some bad. We spin, run, tumble, fall, push, pull, scroll, and swipe just to get through each day. Though our souls can barely keep up, we often push them on-through the depression, through the guilt, through the constant conflicts with family members, friends, and God. We hope that if we reach hard enough and grab the next best thing, peace will finally settle in.

But what if peace is not found in moving forward, but by pausing right where you are? What if you stopped reaching for something more, different, or better and simply put your hope in God? If you learned to trust God like a weaned child trusts its mother, you would find peace. Instead of crying, complaining, and groping for Him every time you are hungry, scared, or wet, simply wait on the Lord. We tend to think that peace is found in the things God gives. True peace is found in the God who gives them.

Insight: “May the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with you all.” (2 Thessalonians 3:16)
