    Delight of the Word

“How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” Psalm 119:103

    Scripture Focus: Psalm 119:97-104

Throughout the Psalms we read that there is delight in knowing God. “Sing praise to his name, for that is pleasant” (135:3). “In your name I will hope, for your name is good” (52:9). “As for God, his way is perfect” (18:30). When we come to Psalm 119, the longest of the psalms, we find many passages that speak of love for and awe of God’s Word. In verse 103, God’s Word is sweeter than honey in our mouth.

Loving the Lord and loving His Word go hand in hand. How can it be, then, that often those who claim to love God care very little for His Word? If a man says he is in love with a woman yet treats her love letters as if they were junk mail, would you think his love was real? If we are to love God, we will love His Word. Though our love ebbs and flows, His love remains steadfast. Where our love changes daily, His is from everlasting to everlasting.

That perfect love reached down when Jesus gave His life for us. This good news of the gospel is the sugar added to the entire Word of God. Taste and see that it is good!

Insight: “Amazing grace! How sweet the sound/ that saved a wretch like me!” (John Newton, 1779)
