    I Want to See

“What do you want me to do for you? Jesus asked him. The blind man said, Rabbi, I want to see.” Mark 10:51

    Scripture Focus: Mark 10

Blind Bartimaeus was begging by the roadside when Jesus walked by. He began shouting for Him, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” When people tried to hush him, he shouted all the more. Jesus stopped, called him near, and asked, “What do you want me to do for you?”

I can’t help but think, Isn’t it obvious? Perhaps Jesus is asking a deeper question than the words immediately convey. What do I want Jesus to do for me? What do I really want? I want what Bartimaeus wants: “I want to see.” My physical vision is fine; what I want is to see Jesus in my life, to know Him and trust Him. Faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see (Hebrews 11:1). Daily we observe God’s hand in our lives, things that the world would call “coincidences,” things that a believer knows are the providences of God in His plan for us. Sometimes we miss the little graces that God gives us every day.

That is what I want my eyes to be open to. If I know He is present in my day with me, what more could I ask for?

Insight: “I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.” (Psalm 27:13)
